Trump administration targets Huawei

President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order, banning U.S. companies from selling kit to Huawei. Avoiding giving direct names of China and Huawei as the intended target, the order aims “protect America from foreign adversaries who are actively and increasingly creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in information and communications technology infrastructure and services in the United States,” a White House statement said. Following the order, Asian stocks saw decline and China urged Washington to stop “these wrongful actions.” Earlier Chinese Foreign Ministry had also reacted against the U.S., saying: “For some time, the US has been abusing its national power to tarnish the image of and suppress specific Chinese companies, which is disgraceful and unjust.” “The world knows clearly what its intentions are,” the foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said.
