Huawei phones won’t be preinstalled with Facebook

Chinese telecom giant Huawei phones can no longer have Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram apps preloaded. A Facebook spokesperson told Reuters, “We are reviewing the Commerce Department’s final rule and the more recently issued temporary general license and taking steps to ensure compliance.” Huawei has recently been in the center of an ongoing trade war between China and the U.S. Trade tensions between Washington and Beijing escalated sharply after the Trump administration put additional tariffs of up to 25% on $200 billion of Chinese goods, prompting Beijing to retaliate. Trump had also signed an executive order, banning U.S. companies from selling kit to Huawei. Following Trump decision, Google also announced that Huawei lost its access to updates to Android operating system.
